Couples and Marriage Therapy

Why couples therapy?

Attending therapy as a couple affords the opportunity to work collaboratively and to let your partner see you at your most vulnerable and at your very best.

What can couples or marriage therapy help with?

Couple relationships can suffer neglect under the weight of economic pressure, child-rearing, extended family conflict, work stress,  lack of community, and various other obligations and expectations. Under these conditions anger and resentment can take hold and push love and desire aside. Coming together to face these and other challenges can give couples the chance to reclaim what they once cherished.

We can help with:

  • LGBTQIA friendly couples counseling

  • Marriage counseling

  • Premarital counseling

  • Couples considering separation or divorce

  • Co-parenting following divorce or separation

  • Issues related to sex and intimacy

  • Couples seeking support following infidelity

How is our approach different?

Traditional couples therapy can perpetuate blame and the treatment of problems as something wholly personal, the result of individual failure, created by one partner or the other–or both. It overlooks the broader cultural context in which problems thrive.

In our work with couples we make every effort to preserve the dignity of each partner and that of the relationship. Our approach views problems from a distance. This allows for a critique of problems rather than a critique of partners.
